DOK Library Concept Center was designed by Dok Architecten and AEQUO. They converted the old Hoogoven Building, retaining the concrete shell of the original while inserting a striking triple-storey glass-roofed atrium that forms the heart of the library. Externally, a glass and brick facade respects the historic surroundings and allows passers-by to see into the building. The interior is characterised by soft materials within the original exposed concrete shell – leather-covered desks in primary colours, MDF shelving, wooden furniture. Colour and lighting is used to guide visitors through the various 'shops' within the library, adhering to the retail concept used in other new Dutch libraries.
