The Visitor and Cultural Centre was commissioned by the state during 2014 to commemorate the centenary of IrelandÂ’s 1916 Rising. The revolutionary leader and academic, Padraig Pearse, holidayed at Ros Muc and his cottage is an established tourist attraction and national monument, where Pearse is reputed to have written his orations, inspired by the Connemara landscape. The new architecture takes the vernacular proportions and landscape setting of the historic cottage as its starting point. The siting and proportion of the new buildings re ect and complement the existing thatched structures.
